what is up with NSTAR trucks everywhere?

Just ran a few errands over towards Union & Assembly squares and there are NSTAR trucks with big police details on several streets in the area.  I didn't notice anyplace without power.  Any idea what's going on?

Dunno. Maybe they were upgrading?

PS. Anybody know anything about landline outages in the Teele Sq. area? We've had a lot of Verizon trucks working on the poles.

We lost our phone after the outage last week (it also croaked some other appliances in the house- power surge?) Finally got it back today after a Verizon worked spent half his day playing with poles in the Teele Sq. area. Not sure if we're alone or not.

I lost mine around 7pm, the night after the 4am outage, and it was down until late on 12/31.

What kind of appliances did you lose during the outage?

Microwave and stereo are doing funny things - microwave types 3's by itself, receiver doesn't like to turn on anymore, and when it does only some of the lights come on. Both seem to work more or less but are traumatized.

Brownout?

One of the respondents to http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/1598283.html said there was a brownout after the power came back on, but the voltage is back to normal. And that probably answers what the crews the OP saw were working on.

Do all the lights on your receiver come on now?

Yeh, everything seems back to normal now. We even had a problem with the ignitor on our oven, and had it replaced. I wonder if we had just waited for the voltage to come back up whether it might have started to work on its own...

my guess would be that it's related to the power outage a few days ago. the morning after the outage, there were a bunch of trucks working around the broadway/mcgrath-obrien intersection, but if they did a temporary repair, i could easily see a more lengthy and thorough fixing involving those areas.

it looked like they were installing new taller poles this afternoon. i'm in the area and haven't noticed any loss in service.
