Christmas Tree Removal

Hi

This is my first Christmas with a live tree and I was just wondering if the weekly trash removal will take care of pick up, or do you need to get a special permit?    thank you........

On http://www.somervillema.gov/section.cfm?page=1262&org=ose

(Trash disposal procedures)

Christmas trees- Artificial trees can be put out with regular trash. Real trees will be picked up by DPW for mulching in January. Trees put out after January, will be picked up for regular trash.

And then later we can pick up tree mulch at the dpw! Not great for all gardening purposes, but my blueberry bushes love it. (bring your own shovel)

They don't always get to them promptly, though, if there's a lot of snow keeping DPW busy for instance - 2 years ago I think our tree sat out for a month and a half.

On the Cambridge side of the square it's pretty much the same: Put it out on a regular trash day during January; they pick them up and mulch them.
