It's been a bit since I had an appointment, and when I called the place I used to go, they said they were scheduling out to November 2026.

I'm hoping for a place with a no-nonsense approach that will focus on skin health, not marketing cosmetic procedures.

Nobody's getting food stamps next month, and I'm doing something about it! Maybe I could do something... FOR YOU!

See, I've discovered that I'm a really good courier when it comes to getting stuff into free boxes! I've also discovered that I'm good at helping people clean out their kitchens (and other rooms, but right now, food is the important thing). I've helped people do this and can give references!

So: is your kitchen full of herbs, spices, teas, drinks, or food that you are never going to get to? (Teas and herbs/spices are SO useful to people, and so often forgotten!) Does looking into your cabinets stress you out? I can help with that! I can help clean out your kitchen, disappear the bad stuff into the compost, and transport the good stuff to local free pantries so that hungry people can eat it! You get cupboard space, your neighbors get fed, I get to prove to myself the government can't break my spirit, and everyone wins!

This is an open offer for the general Boston area, but because I am a pedestrian and stuff like canned goods are heavy, I'm most useful in the Arlington, Cambridge, Medford, and Somerville areas. I will be limited in how much I can carry, but I have two VERY sturdy 20 liter backpacks, a tote bag, and a heart filled with determination and spite.

Help us feed our neighbors! Spread the word to anyone around who might find this useful!

advice/thoughts on local cycling

I am seeking anecdotal advice about cycling in the Somerville-Medford-Malden area. Even the amazing Susan McLucas could not teach me to ride a bicycle (I can't keep myself from looking down on a turn) so I am considering investing in an adult tricycle with or without power assist. (I can fall down and bang myself up while walking with something in my hands that throws my balance off-center, too.)

My issue is that as a motorist, I have noticed that I often don't have room to pass a cyclist. I keep pace with the cyclist until I can safely pass with two or more feet between the side of the car and the cyclist. I very much appreciate the roads painted with the indication that cyclists are allowed to ride down the middle of the car lane!

How well is this honored? Am I a typical motorist when it comes to cyclist safety?

Missing trumpet slide on bike path

Last night a friend got on the bike path by the Lowell St stairs/bridge carrying a trumpet, and one of the valve slides (U-shaped silver metal) fell off as he headed towards Davis. If you find it please let me know and I'll put you in touch with the owner.

Weird Interaction with Local Politician

So I recently had a weird interaction with a local politician, Jack Perenick. After I mentioned that the Election Commission sent me a mail-it voting packet that did not include a ballot, he told me that was because I was declared an inactive voter and would need to apply to be reinstated. He then pulled out his phone, brought up an app, and stated that, of the listed voters I live with, two were not active. I was declared inactive a couple months ago, and one of my house mates, G___, had their voting address changed in the last month to an address they have not lived at in years. He then showed me their entry on the phone app that listed the old address. He then told me to not worry, that he would take care of everything. After that, he then fiddled with his phone a bit, touched the screen a few times, and then said 'There, done, I have take care of it, I have updated the election commission records. You and G___ can now vote again.'

So, when I looked into things, none of that was true. I was not declared inactive, G___ did not have their address changed to an old one within the previous month, and candidates can not update election commission records with a phone app**. All of it was a lie.

** There is a phone app that shows them the names, addresses, etc, but it only displays information, it does not have the ability to alter any of it.

Contractor skilled at rodent exclusion?

Can anyone recommend a contractor in the greater Camberville area who's good at rodent exclusion? As in, identifying where and how they're getting in, then systematically blocking those entrances so the rodents *stop* getting in.

This is for a 10-residential-unit building, brick and cement block outside, drywall inside. So someone who can handle a project larger than a single-family home. (It's a condo complex; the condo committee does not have any existing connections for that kind of work.)

Does anyone know of a local place that sells 28-guage jeweler's wire?

I tried Michaels earlier today, and they had 26-guage wire, but the only 28-guage wire was in tiny spools of assorted colors. I just want plain silver-colored wire.

Somerville is doing participatory budgeting! Any resident age 12 and over can participate, and they're taking suggestions until November 20th! You can see a list of people's suggestions here; there's a lot of repeats, and you can boost things you would love to have! (Or add a suggestion of your own if it's not on there already!) Lots of suggestions for curb cuts, ramps, water fountains, public bathrooms, and a municipal composting program! ^_^

three garden related offers

Three gooseberry bushes. I love the gooseberries, but a tree has shaded them over the years and they barely produce in the shade. They need a sunny spot (I currently have them in a 10' x 2' strip) where you can handle a plant with longish spines. Given the way our climate is these days, you could probably transplant them in fall or early spring; I'm happy to hold onto them until then. (They do require spring and summer maintenance to control sawfly; I'll tell you details if you want the plants.)
Red raspberry plants. The berries are great, we just are planting different things in the spot. We do have raspberry cane borers in the plants, but they're easy to control. Given the way our climate is these days, you could probably transplant them in fall or early spring; I'm happy to hold onto them until then. We absolutely have as many as you want. And more. Would you like more?
Two kits for building nested octagonal garden beds (two larger bases and smaller tops). Pros: Incredibly light plastic, easy to assemble, no tools needed (tongue and groove). Cons: Like to disassemble themselves slowly over the course of a year; we've been known to reinforce them with duct tape and sometimes rope. I can't find a great picture but you can probably extrapolate from this corner shot here. (It's the brown one with tiers and strawberries, not the big piece of bending black plastic.)
