(no subject)

So I got the robo call about the street closures for the Jingle Road Race... but is this information online anywhere with a map?

I just looked around the somerville website a bit with no success...

I didn't get the robo call.

The organization that's putting on the race has removed all of the information from their website.

Thanks -- how did you find that?

I live two blocks from the route shown on that map, on Day Street. That should have put me high on the list of people to get robo-called, but I didn't get one.

I think you found a page that is no longer linked from anywhere else on their website.

Yep, I like the group and all, but their web design is bogglingly bad, and that's a great example of it. Some of the sponsors link back there and say that's where you can get details on the race, but too bad, nothing there.

Anyway, I'll be there working registration and possibly running.

I received this information as a robocall and also as an email message. I liked the email message better because I couldn't remember all of the information in the telephone message. Here's the email text:

Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with information about road-race related street closures in your area this weekend. On Sunday, December 14th beginning at 9am, the Somerville Police Department and Traffic and Parking Department will be detouring vehicles in and around the Davis and Teele Square areas due to the running of the annual Jingle Bell road race. Secondary roads in the Davis Square area may be closed to through traffic beginning at 9am, with major roadways including Holland Street, Broadway from Holland to North Street and along the Ball Square corridor, and Powderhouse Boulevard will be closed from 11am to approximately 1pm. The Davis Square area will be closed to traffic for the duration of the morning.

Somerville Police personnel will be stationed throughout these areas to direct traffic and provide detour information.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please feel free to call 311 during regular business hours.

To see more details about the race, please visit their website: http://www.baevents.com/jinglebell/

As you can see above, the city linked back to that useless page. (And I didn't get the e-mail blast either, even though I'm on the Ward 6 ResiStat list.)

city site for road closures?

I'm on Powder House Blvd and saw the runners go by, but never got a robocall or email from the city. It would have been nice to know the route, the sponsor of the race, and the times of the road closure. This is the 3rd race since Thanksgiving; there was even one on Thanksgiving morning. I've never seen or heard anything about the road races or street closures. I remember even seeing cars slowly moving down the street with runners all over the street - with and against the traffic lanes.

Since I'm obviously living in an area that is often used for these road races, it would be nice to know ahead of time what's going on. There must be city regs about holding these events that would allow for Traffic and Parking to announce to residents when these are.
