Mattress disposal?

Does anybody know what Somerville's regulations are on how to dispose of a mattress and box spring?  We're clearing out our guest bedroom for some extra space but we're not really sure what to do with the extra bed.  Anybody?

Make a pile of mattresses and put a pea at the bottom?

311 is good for questions like this.

you can just put them out with your weekly trash - I did so a few months ago. I think it falls under the auspices of disposing of furniture.

Ideal for saving parking spaces.

you can also try posting them on Somerville's FreeCycle if they're in decent condition. They're a pretty active list.

You dont want to deal with used mattresses. Just throw it out.

No. Please don't.

If you're the only ones who have used it so you know that it is bed bug free and such, someone will snap it up in a minute if you post it for free on Craigslist.

from memory - you can put one thing per week out. Mattress one week, box spring then next.

Another option

Dream Futon (now near Inman Sq.) takes drop offs for recycling, and will do pick ups for a fee as well.
