Free cookies at Subway today

The Davis Sq. Subway is on the wasteland side of Elm Street near Green Tomato, Joey's Thai and other anonymous establishments.

There's also a Subway in Union Square. But I don't want to break Passover yet!

Wrap it in plastic wrap and save it until Passover is over!

IIRC Jews aren't even allowed to own leavened foods such as bread and cookies during Passover. Kind of unfortunate timing on Subway's part.

I'm not blaming them -- this is a promotion for Tax Day which affects a lot more Americans than Passover does. I just won't be able to participate.

Instead, I'll be breaking Passover tomorrow night at Dave's Fresh Pasta's "official" grand opening event.

Does that mean they have to throw all their stuff out before passover starts? That's sort of silly.

Yes. (http://ohr.edu/yhiy/article.php/812)

"Any place chametz might have been put during the year must be searched. Therefore, one must also check one's pockets."

Or sell it to someone, then buy it back after Passover. :)

get your shabbos goy to get one, wrap it in plastic for later, and suddenly gift it to you after passover?

[personal profile] ron_newman 2009-04-15 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I'm not observant enough to do that, but I do try to at least avoid eating bread and pasta and such until the eight days are over.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2009-04-15 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I actually bought too much already for myself (3 boxes, when 2 would have sufficed).

pasta too? what leavening agent is in pasta?

is it the flour or the leavening agent that's banned? Because, technically, sugar, butter, and even AIR count as leavening agents in some products. Do you have to give up air for 8 days? That would be rough.

I'll take it!
(I'm in Ball Square, could meet you somewhere . . .)

I'm not an expert on this, nor am I strictly observant. I'll refer you here.
