Taza Open House

Not quite Davis Square but I wanted to let everyone know that Taza Chocolate (in UNION square) is doing another open house on May 2nd. I've been before and it's pretty cool to see our own local Charlie and the Chocolate Factory right here in Somerville (also: free chocolate!).

Also, here's an image to tempt you.

I went to the last one of these and it's interesting, but I was very disappointed not to be able to see the chocolate being made. I understand why they don't show the factory floor (health department regulations and all), but we were only shown a roaster and a sorter, neither of which was processing chocolate at the time. Fun it is, but don't expect the chocolate waterfall and all...

Hi (cocoa) Bean!

hmm.... YMMV - we had a great time at the last

Understandably the equipment wasn't running - too many small hands could get caught up.

We saw the roaster and sorter along with the sacks of raw beans on the first floor. The real magic was upstairs where we were treated to an in-depth discussion/demonstration of the actual chocolate machinery (again not operating). The stone mills and the exploding sugar - all very cool. They also had some killer hot chocolate brewed.

Yea. We didn't get to go upstairs which is what I was disappointed about. Not sure why some groups went up and some didn't (maybe different dates, they've done several in the past) but I would really have liked to see the upstairs. Oh well...

So the question is, if we go this time, will we get to go upstairs?

(I went to the last one in late 2008 and did not get to go upstairs)
