Please post your own event announcements here, instead of asking moderators to do so

In the last few months, I've received a variety of e-mails and private messages asking me to post event announcements here in [livejournal.com profile] davis_square. Other moderators may be receiving these requests as well.

Please don't do this. A LiveJournal account is free, and any LiveJournal account holder can join the [livejournal.com profile] davis_square community. I think it's also possible for Facebook accounts to join this community, but I don't know quite how that works.

Once you're a member of [livejournal.com profile] davis_square, you can post whatever you want, provided it has some relevance to either the Davis Square area or Somerville. Moderators do not screen either memberships or posts in advance.

Thank you. -- Ron, one of the four moderators here

Perhaps make a "brief overview of posting guidelines" post and have that as the sticky post. I know there is some info in the community profile but I think few non-LJ-natives know to look for a profile these days, and people used to other blogs may not expect an "about page" which is what a profile is analogous to to have the posting guidelines.

Anyone with an OpenID, Facebook, Twitter, Google ID, and a couple other things (I think they're for the Russian side of the LJ force) can create an account.
