An (expensive) alternative are European style panel radiators. We just converted our entire heating system from oil to gas and from steam to FHW. We chose panel radiators due to their efficiency and looks. They definitely cost more but we are very happy with them. Coupled with a 7 year 0% HEAT loan, it makes it a little more palatable budget-wise.
