No Red Line service for next four weekends

A reminder: Red Line service between Harvard and Alewife will be replaced with buses all day Saturday and Sunday for the next four weekends, because of the Floating Slab repair project.

Why did they wait until winter to do this?

Maybe because they're doing above-ground projects when the weather allows?

(I'm also curious what the real answer is!)

Let me rephrase: why did they wait until it's too cold to ride a bike between stations?

We have different tolerances.

It was pretty freaking cold riding across town today.

I agree with you on the weather. I've had to delayer while riding this week because I got too warm. And typical Boston winters have periods when it's in the 30s during the day. It's only during the really cold snaps down into the 20s and teens that I find it hard to spend time outside.

But do you really average more than 21 mph in city traffic?

But cruising speed is not average speed, unless you never have to stop or slow for traffic conditions.

It's way too cold for me to ride, my hands freeze no matter what gloves I wear. Same goes for walking, really, but when I walk I don't actually need to use my hands for anything and therefore can stick them in my pockets.
