Jon Monsarrat brings “General Electric and Citigroup Power” to Expose Cyberbullies

Posted May 17th, 2012:

"Cambridge, MA ( prsync ) May 17, 2013 - Jon Monsarrat is bring the same consulting services to fight cybercrime that he has used to advise top executives from General Electric and Citigroup. Through previous consulting jobs, he helped executives at GE Trade put together an import / export offset program to help them make sales worldwide. And for Citigroup he worked to design for them an "active bank system". Now he is bringing that power to expose cyberbullies, with a twist: two new patented technologies. The previous press release "Jon Monsarrat, $160 Million DotCom Icon, to Expose 100 Cyberbullies" dated May 8, 2013, was sent out with incorrect information. First, due to a miscommunication when the press release was being written, the venture is not part of Monsarrat's Hard Data Factory, and Rickland Powel l is not a contact. Instead the service is part of Monsarrat Consulting, his private consulting practice, and does not involve Rickland Powell. Second, due to a separate miscommunication, the press release stated that the new venture launched with partnerships. That was in error. The new venture does not launch with any partnerships."

Same poem. Leslie Fish set it to music, and I learned it from listening to a recording by Julia Ecklar (I think it's from the Horsetamer's Daughter album, but it was given to me as a third-generation dubbed audiocassette so who knows.)

I gather from your username that you're a Kipling fan. Me too. :)

I thought when I first read it that jonmon had copy-pasted his bio paragraph from a webpage and had copied too large a block, thereby including R's info from the page as well. It's still my working theory.

by the way, Rickland put a second public post on his Facebook page last Friday:
A bit of an update on that lawsuit thing...

I am not involved in the lawsuit in any way and am not participating in it in any way. I have asked to be kept out of it and to not discuss it, and this has been honored for the most part. I understand that my name and address have since been removed, but the Internet, as they say, is forever.

I have a long-standing business relationship with the primary person. Previously, this has included using my address as a maildrop for a company, but that's no longer the case. (Delivery of this business mail at my home address is no longer accepted.)
Because I am not an interested party, and because I am dealing with personal family issues, a family friend (And awesome person!), Regis, has agreed to handle inquries related to this via email and various social media outlets.

Mail sent to me on this subject will be forwarded to Regis, unread. If there is something of importance I need to know, please relay it through Regis - she will be in contact with me as needed and can follow up with people if necessary.

Yeah, what's confused me the most about all of this is that he's generating all this bad publicity when generating positive publicity is so easy.

forwarded to Regis

That would be me, in case anyone still needs anything related to Rickland's (lack of) role in this.

Those are the million-dollar computer skills and attention to detail he's touting!

That's a kind service you're doing.

There is no explanation for Monsarrat's conduct in regard to this that reflects well on Monsarrat. The best case scenario is incompetence.

Thank you for taking on this thankless role. I'm sorry that RIckland has had to deal with this at all when there are more important things going on in his life.

It's the passive-aggressive non-apology of press releases. "I'm sorry I hurt your feels."

[identity profile] thetathx1138.livejournal.com 2013-05-17 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If I'm reading that last correctly, he means that he will rent a P.O. Box to collect official mail so you can't be found through your lawyer. A mail drop, in other words.

I literally write about doing this and when and why to do it every damn day. It's like having a case study detonate right in front of you.

I still think that the Eldest Magician was a bully and Little Girl Daughter a snitch. :-)

I'm gonna go with "mons" being problematic. :D

It's possible that the 2nd release was already effectively "in flight" at the time the lawyers reached their agreement about "no more press releases". It's still worth mocking, but I doubt it will make much of a difference in the case. Any future releases, though..

Really?? This seems totally backwards to me. I hope that either he a) learns from this, takes a big step back and reboots his life in such a way that eventually legitimate positive news takes the place of what's on Google now, or b) anyone looking him up immediately finds out about the lawsuit, his freaky letters, and his harassment of innocent people. He doesn't need a PR consultant; he needs a therapist.

[identity profile] greenlily.livejournal.com 2013-05-17 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
He doesn't need a PR consultant; he needs a therapist.

Well, I wasn't going to comment on that, on account of I'm not qualified to judge other people's mental health or whether they should seek care for same. I'll go so far as to dust off the language I learned in grad school and assert that the person under discussion is presenting with behaviors which are consistent with the ability to benefit from a therapeutic situation.

(good heavens, that's exhausting.)

Regardless of whatever other actions he chooses to take, Mr. Monsarrat does have a PR problem. My hope that he takes reasonable action to resolve it (such as consulting an expert) is directly tied to my equally devout wish that he'll abandon the unreasonable (IMHO and only my O) actions he's currently taking.

Well, it's just a theory. A bit of googling doesn't find any support for it. It certainly didn't come from here...

For the life of me, I cannot grasp the level of cluelessness and general incompetence required to allow a commercial web site to go live to the public with dummy blog postings and lorem ipsum pages.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2013-05-17 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
But did he actually go live with this, as in advertise it anywhere? It doesn't seem to be his 'main' web site.

[identity profile] jikamens.livejournal.com 2013-05-17 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone in the web publishing business with an ounce of sense knows that publicly accessible == "going live". If it's on the internet, and you don't want somebody to find it, they will. Until you're ready for the public to see it, you put IP address or password restrictions on it.

It's comparable to a new restaurant covering its windows with paper or soap while it's building out.

He's used this domain before - there are cached posts from his lectures dating to 2009

This one is especially good:

Funny you should mention. Apropos of absolutely nothing, every time I see the name of jonmon's lawyer, my brain breaks into song, either "Ishman, Ishman, roly-poly Ishman" (can't find audio, sorry) or "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Ishman".
