Heating oil?

I just moved into a place that uses heating oil. I've never used oil before and my landlord does not have an agreement with a specific company. Does anybody have any specific recommendations or warnings for local oil delivery companies?

Look into the Massachusetts Consumer Energy Alliance. It costs $20 to join and will end up saving you around $60 per tank fill. They will set you up with a vendor who will give you a really good price on heating oil.

Arlington energy is the cheapest I've found, but the guy is a total asshole and he doesn't have anyone to answer his phone.

we use Hayes, they do auto refills and they're very polite. they called me a few weeks ago to make sure i still lived there and wanted to continue this winter. they also called in the spring before the last delivery of the winter to make sure i would be living there in the fall so as not to make me pay for a tank i wouldn't end up using this winter.

Back when I asked last year, someone suggested www.newenglandoil.com (http://www.newenglandoil.com/massachusetts/zone2.asp?x=0) for pricing. Mostly I went with B&C, because they usually took debit cards by phone and gave the cash price, and they were very nice (and accommodating) when we needed last-minute fuel deliveries. (Long story involving landlord not telling us we were running low until we were within 12 hours of completely out, several times.)

Seconded. I don't use oil any more but when I did, it was Mass Energy. I think the company I was set up with was Faulkner, but I could be wrong. I think the place I used was the one that's on Cedar by the bike path. I have nothing to compare them to, though. I do know I was paying less than their advertised rates for sure. :)
