Christmas Tree Recycling
The city of Somerville does Christmas tree recycling starting January 7. Does anyone know if this is a one week only event or if they will still be collecting Christmas trees next week?
not an answer to your question, but..
Does Somerville definitely recycle/compost them or do they get added to the regular trash?
Re: not an answer to your question, but..
SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone today announced the continuation of the city’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program. Beginning the week of January 7th residents may place their trees curbside on their regular trash collection day for pickup.
“This program is both environmentally friendly and convenient for residents,” said Mayor Curtatone. “I am pleased we are able to offer this service for the third year in a row and hope that all of our residents take advantage of this recycling program.”
Residents should remove all decorations and place trees curbside. The trees will be picked up by a separate trash collection truck and mulched. Mulch will be available for pickup at the Department of Public Works at 1 Franey Road. Contact 311 for additional information.

I don't expect it to be any different this year.
Just please remember to remove the Christmas Tree garbage bag. They will NOT take trees with the bag on.

This is great news.

Because it works: DSLJ members have the answers!
Even though Ron monitors the city site pretty closely, I think I'm just going to add him to the press release distribution list. If he deems the information group-worthy, he can post it here.

It seems odd that the official somerville (http://www.somervillema.gov/NewsDetail.cfm?instance_id=1148) website truncated part of the release. Who should we contact someone to have them add in that key line?
Re: not an answer to your question, but..
The trash guys took it. I guess my tree is in a landfill somewhere. The press release timing on this was bad. Oh well.
