black ice. _copious_ black ice.

I was just out jogging and within the last hour or so it's like the whole neighborhood froze over with a light, invisible glaze of ice. Please sand your sidewalk, and please be careful out there.

Thanks!

I figured salting could wait until after dinner but apparently not.

Indeed. My husband was carefully making his way back home (Winter Hill) with a pizza and helped some guy who took a digger near Broadway, spilling most of a 30-pack of beer across the road. The guy offered my husband a beer in thanks (he politely declined). :-)

Poor guy. There goes several months supply of beer. Let's hope the busted cans were put in a garbage can.

Several months? You and I must have differing opinions on what constitutes a month's beer supply.

[identity profile] nungnung.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking the same thing! "MONTHS??"

I hope not too many of those bottles broke ;-(

Cans :-)

Was it crappy beer?

(I drove from Davis to JP, and while the roads were scary at first, they were remarkably non-icy south of the river. But up north, I was kinda freaked by what was apparently the first time I've ever had my ABS kick in.)

[identity profile] ronhaha108.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
definitely, not davis, but on medford street in somerville, going uphill, my truck slid about 100feet right into the person in front of me that slid into someone else...

it's damn slippery out there, be careful!

We got some seriously strange weather today. At least three separate snow squalls, several hours apart, nearly white-out conditions at times, and some thunder too.

[identity profile] apricot3.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I noticed that the weather ran the gamut of everything save a tornado through the day- at one point it was sleeting and then it was sunny and then there were giant snowflakes in the sun and then it was dark as night at 4 and then light again for sunset!

my brakes locked up for the first time when I was entering the Powderhouse rotary, that was not fun.

thaaaankyou morgan :)
i'm about three weeks behind on the majority of lj reading so i didn't know your car was broken into! ....you know who i am, right? i won the Pimp stick at frommy's NYE gala- i'm his roomie from KY who had the car stolen from his old rozzy place, so i now have a bit of valid paranoia on the issue.

i've been locking the gps i got for xmas in my glove compartment- is that easy to break into?

Don't leave anything valuable in your car, ever.

If it's a gps that has a suction cup attachment, leaving the cradle on the window suggests that you have a gps, and it's probably in the car still ... same with leaving the little tel-tale ring marks on the window.

And yes, a glovebox is easy to break into.

Re: No map for 28 Jan-Feb 4 yet ;)

I haven't made the map (yet, work stuff has me busy), but if you want, go for it.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2008-02-11 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not involved in it (I don't work for the city or the police department), but you're reminding me that I should register my laptop. To read about recent car break-ins, click on the crime tag and look at all of the January posts.

My god the roads were incredibly bad. I was heading back to the Teele square area from Cambridgeside Galleria. When my friend and I left there was no snow/ice/whatever yet. We had just turned to head towards McGrath Highway when it just dropped. One minute there was nothing, the next, the roads were ice and there was snow everywhere. My car(dodge van) fishtailed about every 50 feet if I wasn't going uphill. Incredibly scary. We didn't hit anything or anyone, and I managed to get the car back into check every time, but there were a lot of people out there not so lucky. I saw a lot of ambulances and a lot of cars pulled over with their hazards on.

[identity profile] apricot3.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
erm... i don't even know what that is! are we talking about shoes? i'm not fashionable, I just learned what Uggs are the other day :)

[identity profile] lyonesse.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
they're rubber-and-chain grippy things that go over your shoes so you don't slip.

if you think they might work for me i would love them. finding small enough ones made me too frustrated to keep searching!
