Somerville, Where the 4th of July is Celebrated in June

Speaking of things that go boom...

The City of Somerville starts its 4th of July celebration this week:

Thursday, June 26th

Beginning at 6:30 pm, the Independence Day celebration at Trum Field (on Broadway between Ball and Magoun Squares) will include musical entertainment and the largest fireworks display to date.

Fireworks are set to begin at approximately 9:15 pm.  The rain date for the event is Saturday, July 5th.

Saturday, June 28th

Family Fun Day, scheduled for Saturday, June 28th from noon – 5:00 pm, will include a community BBQ, watermelon eating contest, inflatable obstacle course, and DJ.  All residents are invited and the event is free of charge.  A rain date has been set for Sunday, July 6th.

I've made it to the picnic the last couple of years.  Think of having the cafeteria staff from elementary school prepare your family picnic.  And then drop your expectations a couple of notches lower.  But, it's free!!

I dunno. I got two calls. The first was very detailed and specific information about parking restrictions near Trum Field, indicated that only area residents got it, and said that there would be a subsequent call to all Somerville residents. Then the second, which I assume went to everyone. I have not listened closely (I'm sorry, Tom Champion! Forgive me!).

Oh, I see. I only got the second call, then.
