Arlington will shoot off fireworks over Spy Pond tonight at 7:45 pm, for Town Night.

Also, Mass Ave in Arlington Center will host Town Day tomorrow from 9:30 am to 3 pm. Enjoy a street party and learn about our neighboring town. If you like Somerville ArtBeat and the Cambridge River Festival, you'll like this too.

My daughter would like to view the Boston fireworks, but not from up close (i.e., dealing with crowds). Suggestions on where in Somerville we could go for a decent view of the Boston sky tomorrow night?
[personal profile] ron_newman
Yes, it's that time again. Broadway between Ball and Magoun Squares will be closed to traffic this Thursday, June 29, for a street party starting at 6:30 pm followed by fireworks at 9:15 pm. Before the fireworks, enjoy outdoor performances by the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band, local Disco-Funk band Booty Vortex, and the Somerville Sunsetters.

Full details, including other street closures and parking restrictions, here.

Hi. Does anyone here know why we were seeing and hearing fireworks tonight, around 9:40 pm? From where I was (Lowell and Woodbine streets), they seemed to be coming from the direction of Medford Hillside.

Due to Arlington Town Night/Day there will be a fireworks show Friday (tomorrow 9/16) after dark at Spy Pond.

I was woken up last night by a very short (but bright and beautiful!) firework display.  They were likely in the direction of Trum Field.  I looked at the clock since it seems kinda late and it was midnight.  Did anyone else hear/see them?  Was I hallucinating?

Does anyone know anything about the various fireworks set off through the city this evening?

The email below the cut was sent to Davis Square business owners late yesterday.  There is necessary utility infrastructure work to be done by Eversource in support of the grocery tenant coming in to 240 Elm St.  DPW was able to negotiate a schedule that will also allow water main work to be done in the same area, to avoid having to rip up the roadway twice in that spot. Work will begin this evening (5/24/16) at 6:00 PM and is scheduled to be completed by Thursday morningFriday by noon.Read more... )

Anyone know what's up with this loud bang I've been hearing about this time of night lately, somewhere east of Ball Square?

Friday: Arlington Town Night starts at 5 pm at Spy Pond Field, with FIREWORKS over Spy Pond at 8 pm.

Saturday: Arlington Town Day, 10 am to 3 pm, on Mass. Ave. in Arlington Center, between Pleasant/Mystic and Jason streets. This event is to Arlington what ArtBeat is to Somerville, with lots of music, food vendors, and booths from local organizations.

Saturday: Assembly Row Riverfest, starts at 11 am, with FIREWORKS over the Mystic River at 8 pm.

Saturday night: Project MUM 2014: Retro-futurism, 8 pm to midnight, at the former Waste Management incinerator site, 10 Poplar Street, just across McGrath Highway from Target. (The traditional Meet Under McGrath site is unavailable due to construction, and the event has gotten too large to ever fit there again anyway.)

Sunday: Somerville Dog Festival, 10 am to 3 pm at Trum Field.

If you know of any other local outdoor event that should be listed here, please add a comment.

Honk! is running a kickstarter to support this year's festival, and as of now, they're at $8700 of a $15,000 goal — with only 9 days left. If, like me, you think this is one of the must fun things to happen in our neighborhood, go to Honk 2014 kickstarter and chip in. Even a small bit helps reach the goal, of course, and at higher levels there are nifty rewards.

We in Cambridge just got a robocall saying that Boston had moved its Esplanade fireworks and concert event to tomorrow, Thursday July 3, and that parking, etc., would be affected accordingly. More info to come here, I imagine.

Sharing this info here because I expect this will affect a lot of people's commutes and so forth!

The city will also hold a "Family Fun Day" at Trum Field on Saturday, June 28 from noon to 5 pm, with a community BBQ, children's activities, face painting, pony rides, and other kids' entertainments.

The Davis street piano has a laminated paper sign saying you can play it from 9 am to 9 pm.

Is that an official rule, or did some random person make the sign? There are no hours listed here, even though other listings do have time restrictions.

Having some limit does make sense, since people live above Tedeschi's, etc. But 9 pm is ridiculous. I think a more reasonable end time for such a busy location would be 11 pm or midnight. What does the city noise ordinance say about street musicians and other noise at night?

Our neighboring town of Arlington will shoot off fireworks over Spy Pond tonight.

Tomorrow from 10 am to 3 pm is the Arlington Town Day festival, closing Mass. Ave. between Pleasant and Jason streets. There will be food, music, a huge library book sale, and lots of booths and tables from local community organizations. It's fun.
