math tutoring? (GRE-hell)

Anybody have recommendations for a math tutor (to help me study some geometry, probabilty, etc for GREs) in the area? I don't have the money to pay 1K for a Kaplan course (nor do I need help with Verbal), and I need a bit more than I can get studying on my own.

I may know someone who'd be interested (actually, I know two people who might). What sort of timeframe are you looking for someone in?

You could check out the math departments of local colleges. They often keep a list of tutors on hand.

Another possibility is the Kaplan CD. I don't know how much it costs (I borrowed a copy when I used it), but I felt it did a good job of preparing me for the test. Granted, I didn't need any help with the math stuff.

I had very good luck with buying a couple of the math specific books and working all the way through it.

I found the whole line of 'Cracking the GRE' to be awful.
I found the Kaplan software to also be awful. The only valid graphs you'll see in a CD will be the CD directly from the GRE test makers. Honest. The Kaplan CD has graph questions that take up too much of a page and require a scrollbar. Also they provide many that are 'not to scale'. The real GRE doesn't do that, even if they claim a graph is not guaranteed to be to scale they won't deliberately throw you off with that, and they will never provide a scrollbar on the graphs.

Yes, he is still in business and can be reached at learn_stuff@lycos.com and has lots of experience with GRE prep.

Can always use a math tutor (http://www.learningrx.com/charlotte-north/charlotte-north-tutoring/).
