tailor/person with specific type of sewing machine

I'm looking for a tailor (or someone else who stitches things) that has a sewing machine with a long arm and detachable foot. I'm trying modify a backpack, and a regular sewing machine can't reach.

I tagged your post. I don't recall seeing that particular specification before, but you may still want to look through the old posts.

You might want to go around to the local tailors with your backpack and tell them what you want. The one on Elm St near Cerry St has the best reviews. What are you trying to do to your backpack?

Rizzo's

I'm not sure if Mr. Caluti at Rizzo's Tailoring in Harvard Square has what you're looking for, but he can do some pretty elaborate things...I'd give him a call!

If you end up having no luck with tailors, you might check out a cobbler -- the shoe repair guy in the little plaza behind Starbucks is fantastic.

If you want to do something custom with it I can probably help when I get back in a week. I'm right in Davis and do repairs on occasion when I'm not doing bespoke commissions.

And in fact this old post did suggest a (different) shoe repair guy.

I would need to look at it. I have an extremely long free arm machine with a walking foot.

SAR? Do you mean Search and Rescue? How much safety is tied to the strength of the tabs and chaining? I would require a waiver of liability before starting any kind of safety critical work. If it's just for accessories and stuff then that is a different story.

I didn't modify a backpack, I had mine repaired by Brett's Luggage Repair, and they did an awesome job on a backpack that looked unsalvageable at first. Maybe they'd do your mods too. They are outside the city but there is a guy in the basement at 134 Beach St by South Station that picks up for them.

I get back into town Tues next week. We should meet up and discuss the project. If it looks like there is going to be a lot of labor in taking stuff apart then we may be able to design something that can rivet on instead.
