Hello,

Can someone tell me who caters least to families, children, and "no turn between 7-9 a.m." signs in the upcoming election?

Thanks!

What do you want less of? Fewer playgrounds, parks, and schools?

Seriously. I think that those are some of the things that make Somerville so great, and i don't even live there.

It's like the 90's

What was the matter: peace or prosperity?

No, just fewer breaks for breeders.

not all people who care for children and look out for their welfare are breeders. some look out for the lives of other people's children and some have children that they did not "breed" themselves. please use language that is designed for conversation if that is what you desire here. if you really do just want to bitch about stuff, by all means go on using inflammatory and biased language.

Wait, what?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_mattt/ 2008-09-15 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of breaks?

And what do you mean by "breeders"?

What is a "break for breeder" ? I don't understand what you are referring to.

What do residential parking restrictions have to do with the presence or absence of children?

Well, it's kind of part and parcel with living here. Somerville is, I believe, the city most heavily zoned for residential purposes in America, and I've heard it's pretty close to the highest in terms of residential zoning on Earth. That means a lot of families live here, hence a lot of votes.

Also, running on a "screw the children" ticket would be a hard sell, just guessing.

Re: ;-)

[identity profile] thetathx1138.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but that's got nothing to do with kids, except they're an excuse.

I'll trade you your Somerville digs for my Allston ones. You can take all the turns you want, and there ain't no babies in sight.

Re: ;-)

[identity profile] smacaski.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there are babies in Allston, but they tend to be 18-year old BU students.

Please. Don't insult babies.

Could you elaborate?

Um...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_mattt/ 2008-09-15 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
...how exactly does Somerville "mollycoddle" children?

You mean having public schools and crossing guards? That's kind of typical.

I guess it's possible for there to be people out there who hate children and families, but in that case, you're living in the wrong place.

Might I suggest a nice trailer park reitrement community in Florida?

You don't have to pay property taxes to fund public schools in a mobile home in Florida, and with all the grumpy old people around, I'm sure there will be plenty of company for talking about those dang kids these days.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_mattt/ 2008-09-15 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the accusation of "mollycoddling" I don't understand.

Besides crossing guards, how else does Somerville "mollycoddle" children?

I'm glad some children have the luxury of walking to school, in which case, I have to condone the use of crossing guards to help them.

I wish we could have walked to school where I lived. I think it's admirable for a town to try to prevent kids from getting run over and their parents from clogging up the streets around the school in the morning.

I've read all the comments and still don't understand how children are "mollycoddled" in Somerville. I read plenty of talk about traffic issues, but I am still confused how children are "molycoddled." Can you please explain it more fully?
