civil liberties ballot petition - this weekend

Want to help us get this question on the ballot?

    Shall the state representative from this district be instructed to vote in favor of:

    1. a resolution asserting that the campaign against terrorism should not be waged at the expense of constitutionally protected civil rights and liberties of Massachusetts residents;
    2. legislation barring the use of state resources or institutions to carry out actions that violate constitutional rights, such as racial and religious profiling, conducting secret investigations without reasonable grounds, and maintaining files on individuals and organizations without reasonable suspicion of criminal conduct; and
    3. a resolution urging the Massachusetts Congressional delegation to vote to repeal provisions in the federal USA PATRIOT Act and other laws that infringe on civil rights and liberties and to oppose any future legislation that infringes on civil rights and liberties.

We will be collecting signatures today (Saturday) from noon until sometime in the afternoon, at the UJP rally in Copley Square. On Sunday, we'll be on the Cambridge Common during the weekly peace vigil, also about noon-4pm. If you or anyone you know would like to sign our petition, please come!

We're also looking for more volunteers to petition this weekend, particularly outside theaters showing Farenheit 9-11. Petitioning is something best done in small teams of 2-4 people. If you'd like to help, please contact us, or just come find our table at the rally in Copley and say you want to help.

Isn't legislation forbidding unconstitutional laws a special case of laws saying that illegal laws are illegal?

Yeah, but it's sometimes faster than waiting for the courts to get around to saying it.
