New Years in Davis Square

This is going to be my first New Years Eve in Davis Square.  Do people know of interesting things going on??  Any recommendations?

Is it important to you to actually *stay* in the square? If not, I recommend First Night.

The only event I know of in Davis Square is Johnny D's New Years Eve party with Booty Vortex.

Otherwise, I recommend that you buy a First Night button and go see the Post-Meridian Radio Players at the Orpheum Theatre, starring [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel and [livejournal.com profile] surrealestate and probably other local LJ'ers whose handles I don't remember right now.

Hello. Like the others said, I recommend just getting a First Night badge and taking it from there. If you do decide to hit up First Night, please be sure to check out Sxip's Sonic New York (http://www.firstnight.org/FirstNight2009/Events/Search.aspx?id=116). Sxip's a genuinely awesome guy who's worth your time. Adam (the beatboxer he's bringing along) is really good too. It should be part sonic experimentation (albeit in an accessible manner), part slightly nerdy odes to Brooklyn. Highly recommended. Don't be afraid to say hi to either one if you bump into them too. They's gooooooood peeps.

Other than that, I don't know of much happening in the area. I might be going to Great Scott in Allston but I haven't made up my mind yet.

NY brazilian style

If you're willing to head downtown and/or JP, then here's a blatant plug:
I play in a batucada drumming group called BatukAxe. We're playing as part of first night at the Hynes around 9:30,
and then later we're playing at the Milky Way at midnight. Imagine a group of 15 drummers banging out tight brazilian carnival-type rhythms.... that's what we play! Anyway, that's where I'll be so I thought I'd share.
