Fax you, Davis Square!

Looked briefly thru tags but couldn't find anything about fax machines in Davis.  I need to fax this afternoon.  But where?

A rant on the side:

It is the year Two Thousand Freaking Nine. Would business offices please stop asking me to fax them things?

No, I do not own a fax machine. Neither do I have bedesmen to pray for my well-being or go falconing on weekends.

If it's a document with my social security number on it (such as some flexible benefit account claim forms), I'd rather fax it than e-mail it.

...

Sometimes, you say ridiculous things, Ron, and I cannot tell if you're being serious or funny.

What's ridiculous about that? I don't think e-mailing a PDF with my SSN on it is a smart thing to do.

I don't disagree with that. Sending that in the clear over a fax line isn't any more secure.

I don't see a good alternative, though. At least a fax doesn't sit on an unknown number of other people's servers on the way from my computer to its destination.

No, but a fax does usually end up sitting in a big pile of faxed printouts at whatever company's fax machine where most employees can flip through them if they are so inclined.

There may be no good alternative, but don't kid yourself into a false sense of security over any method of information transfer. Even physically handing paperwork to a human agent can be prone to shenanigans if we want to get the paranoia hats out.

uploading a pdf via SSL seems like a pretty good alternative to me...

of course, then one has to put faith in the web developers to not just drop my pdf somewhere with world readable permissions...
