I'm toying with an idea for an empty house party, but, of course, my and all my friends' houses are full! If you or someone you know has an empty apartment that they might consider renting just for a weekend in March or April, drop me a line.

Not to completely go sideways (as this might be pertinent and already in place somewhere)

I know there were a few of us casually musing about with the creation of some sort of "party" space in some sort of abandoned or small warehouse/store front jointly purchased and fixed up. There would be cushions and futons, with Rock Band (hello, Harmonix?) and game stations with a bit of oise proofing, a bunch of card/board gaming and tables to play on, a fridge/freezer or two and other party ideas. And then a room with a bit of crash space for those who don't want to drive gome. Liquor license debatable but prolly BYOB depending on city regs.

Don't know if anything like that could be put together but it would be almost like HackerSpaces (http://www.hackerspaces.org) yet more Slacker than Hacker.

Curious if this has been done or attempted before.

Ron, you're usually good at this level of knowledge. What would be relevant city ordinances and zoning for setting up something like this using the HackerSpaces model and having it be BYOB?

This I don't know, but I vaguely recall this building being used as an informal (probably extra-legal) venue before. The Somerville Arts Council folks (Rachel Strutt, Lauren Leeman) might know more.

Unfortunately the Somerville authorities have stopped people who were doing far less controversial stuff in warehouse space. I really doubt they'd overlok anyone using a warehouse for parties, if they knew about it.
