Poooool

Went down to the post office last weekend, and noticed that across the street there's a bowling/pool joint--has anyone been in there? What's the vibe like?

Also read that Diesel has pool tables, I assume they fill up rather quickly. Wondering what are good places for shooting some pool in the area.

Thanks!

it rocks and it's cheap!

Pretty much what I was going to say. It's very laid-back, family-oriented, old-fashioned, and quite cheap. (There's a jukebox where you can get 10 songs for a $1.) There's no alcohol, if that's a necessary part of your bowling/pool experience. (Though we did ask, out of curiosity, if we could bring some in, and the guys said so long as we were discrete about it and didn't get wasted, it was fine with them. We didn't end up bothering, though.)

I think the bowling/pool place there has a certain retro charm. Diesel has it's own character, and I've rarely seen both tables in use there. If you don't mind alcohol and cigarette smoke, Good Times over by Assembly Square has several dozen pool tables.

Cigarette smoke is no longer an issue there...

Also, the Hideaway Lounge near Alewife Station has tables for cheap (buck a game or so the last time I was there).

Freshpond behind the 99. 20 Concord Lane, Cambridge.

It's a bit of a dive but the patrons have always seemed friendly.

Be aware that it's candlepin, which means smaller pins, smaller balls, and three throws at a time.

In the evenings, there's sometimes a wait for the pool tables at Diesel, but otherwise, there's almost always one free. I think they're $8/hr, but I can't remember if that's the evening or daytime rate.

Sacco's!

I'd suggest avoiding the pool tables there though---it is basically overrun by high school wannabeghetto kids.
