Hey All,

Have you seen people around the square with cool bags imprinted with the fourth amendment (protection from searches and seizures)?


My roommate and I made them! We're really psyched about this project and wanted to spread the word.

We (like you, probably) got incredibly annoyed at the MBTA's bag search policy. Even when the Globe reported that they were no longer planning to search bags, a careful reading of the article would show that the MBTA itself says the policy is still in effect.

Our security screening policy remains in place,” said Mr. Tesaturo [Press Secretary for the MBTA], “If you look carefully at the globe article, nowhere in it does it say that the MBTA has officially ended the policy.”

We decided to do something to help everyone remember that these searches are in violation of your constitutional rights. So we made these handsome bags.

I think that would be a great idea, too! For now it's important to us to keep the price-point low—they're $20 on the website, plus a minimum of $4 shipping which means the retailers who are kind enough to carry them on consignment are setting their prices at or below $24. I have been looking for good messenger bags that I could have printed on, but so far all the ones I've found would make us have to set the price at closer to $60. Maybe if sales of the base bag are really good I can see what the lowest minimum run of the more expensive bags would be.

All that said, you still might consider a stop in Comicazi to check out the bag. It's really a good bag.

Glad to hear it! I'm not sure the guys as Comicazi really thought they would sell—they don't really have a line of political goods there—I think they took them on just to be kind, and were a little surprised that they sold any. It would be great to return the favor by driving new business their way. (While you're there, check out some of the comics by Somerville local artists, too!).
