Davis Square and Somerville links

The community info page has a lot of great links.

But it doesn't have a link to the Ward/Precinct map, nor the My Address Look-up.

[livejournal.com profile] ron_newman asked that I make a new post here looking for your input, so that he and the other mods may sift through the suggestions about what other links should be up there.

So, have at it.

comment emailing is off for this post, but of course comments are left on

Assessor's online database: http://data.visionappraisal.com/somervillema/search.asp

Find out what your neighbors paid for their house... Or other more legitimate issues. Interesting anyway.

Hi Morgan,

I think it's not obvious to a newbie that the community info page is the place to find links. Perhaps it could be renamed to "community info/links page" or there could be a separate page with the name "links".

Also, it would be helpful to label the categories of links, like "media", "government", "community groups", "food", etc...

There's no way to "rename" the LJ profile page, and we only get one of them. Re-subdividing the links is a good idea, though.

True. We can only have 10 links in the sidebar (with a free Basic account), so if we add that one, we'll need to delete another.

true - but since i imagine those links are listed on the info page as well, it wouldn't really be a big deal. there are also overrides (which i use in my, now free, journal) where you can change the links at the top of the page to be whatever you want them to.

I know nothing about customizing journals, so please tell me more about 'overrides' .

overrides are a bunch of css code you can add to a box available in the customizing a journal section.

in my journal, the box at the top used to only have three links, for one website, my user info, and memories. i changed it so now there are four (i could have ten if i wanted, or more maybe, i don't know) and i changed the wording and the placement a bit.

lj keeps tutorials on this, but they differ slightly depending on what journal style you use. my journal is still the 'old S1' "generator" style.

the maps put out by Shape Up Somerville are the best ones I've ever seen of the city. They do not give Ward divisions, but they do give the city borders and lots of other useful information. I have a paper copy of the basic street map and it's one of the most useful maps I own.
Links to all three can be found here: http://www.somervillema.gov/Division.cfm?orgunit=SUS
they are:
Walking Map (http://www.somervillema.gov/CoS_Content/documents/somerville%5B1%5D.6red.pdf)
Street Map (http://www.somervillema.gov/CoS_Content/documents/Somerville%20Map.pdf)
Parks Map
(http://www.somervillema.gov/cos_content/documents/SomervilleParks7.pdf)

Also, as we know this may only be relevant for a bit longer, but for now this list of streets (http://www.somervillema.gov/CoS_Content/documents/ListofPermitStreets.pdf) that are permit only is useful.
