Local electronics shop?

I want to buy a digital camera and would prefer to support a local shop rather than best buy. Are there any local electronics shops any more?

Not that I can think of, but there are camera stores...

There's Hunt's Photo in Harvard Square (small) and Melrose (huge). Not in Davis Square, but a good solid New England place.

And Hunt's will price-match anyone reputable (e.g., B&H).

Does Cameras Inc. sell cameras?

I was going to say the same thing -- they're quite prominently located in the middle of Davis Square. They also have a store in Arlington.

No electronics stores that I know of, but there's Cameras Inc on Elm St, right in Davis Square. I've only ever bought a couple of accessories from them, but the staff seemed knowledgeable - or at any rate, not the kind of clueless you'd expect at Best Buy.

There's You Do It Electronics in Needham, which lists 'Cameras' among their many product lines. It's not their primary focus, however.

Nice pun :)

Still a chain, but possibly a better chain than best buy, Radio Shack has some good deals on cameras and there's one in Porter. And a lot of the stores are franchises, but I don't know about that one in particular.

Nothing like supporting the local Davis Sq camera shop: Cameras Inc. They are refreshingly knowledgeable and helpful.

Cameras Inc. right in davis square is very good. The sales people are knowledgeable and they have a good selection of both dSLR and P&S cameras. You may get sticker shock if you compare them on price to B&H or Amazon, but their prices are, for the most part, on par with those at places like Best Buy. The sales people are infinitely more helpful.

Also, if you're buying a more pricey camera, do not be afraid to ask them to come down on price. I bought a Nikon D90 there last year. I appreciated how helpful they were in deciding which camera was best for me, but their price was $250 more than B&H. They knocked the price down to something I felt was fair and through in free prints 4x6 for a year.

Good point about negotiable price of dSLR and their free prints offer. My experience was similar. I've done business with Cameras Inc. since they opened in Davis Sq and have high praise for them.

I also purchased a camera from Cameras Inc and they were quite helpful.
I'd certainly recommend them for those looking to purchase a camera
from a local store.
