Hair trim recs?

x-posted from my journal...

[livejournal.com profile] juldea and I both need to get our hair trimmed. We're both quite fond of our long hair, but have let damaged ends grow out for way too long, and are looking to get trims from someone who can figure out how much needs to go, but still understands the meaning of "just a trim". Once upon a time Juldea had a person named Helen at a place called Savvy who got it, but unfortunately she no longer works there.

Recommendations? Cheap is good, too.

Tagging this 'hair' in hope that the large number of previous posts on the subject may be helpful.

not in Davis Sq., but Andre' Hair Salon (1206 Mass Ave, near Harvard Sq.) was quite good for understanding 'just a trim'. ask for Sahara.

This sort of trim is so simple that someplace like Supercuts should be just fine. Don't pay fancy salon prices.

Depending on how bad your ends are, you shouldn't have to take more than one or two inches off. I trim my boyfriend's long hair at home. Have you considered just trimming each other's?

Well, I just comb his wet hair flat against his back and carefully snip across. It looks great.

Google turned up a few instruction pages that you probably have already seen. This one involves dividing the hair into sections. (The article presumes only women would wear their hair long; ignore that part)

Helen is now at Supercuts in Central Square. She posts her hours on her twitter, helenthestylist

(Another Helen fan, because of Juldea, actually)

this meets practically none of your requests, lol, but i always have to recommend sara at liquid on tremont street. a haircut is $40, but i go to no one else because it's great to be relaxed in the chair knowing she won't ruin things :p

i just got my hair cut today for the first time in a year, and wanted to keep it long but just get rid of the fuzzy bits at the end and that's exactly what she did. she's also the ONLY person to never cut bangs to short so they'll 'last longer' which really is code for 'you'll have too short awkward hair for about two or three weeks, enjoy!'

When my husband had long hair, periodically I'd sit him down in the bathroom after he'd washed his hair and cut a straight line across, four inches up from the longest point. Worked pretty well.

(Alas, neither of us care for the tonsured look, so his hair is short these days.)
