There are rumors that the Red Line is experiencing "significant delays" owing to some horkage at Porter Square. Does anyone have more info on this? Forewarned being half-an-octopus and all.

Hadn't heard anything, but there was weirdness on Saturday...for a while they were running shuttlebuses between Park and Alewife...wonder if it's related?

MBTA Web site (http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/transitupdates.asp) says:
Expect significant delays in both directions between Harvard and Alewife due to track problems in the area of Porter Station.

I was stuck for about 20 minutes at Central, headed inbound, at around 1. (No word as to why we were stopped due to a problem located behind us...)

saturday night the bartender at the elephant walk told me there'd been a fire at the harvard square T, and that's why everything was delayed. dunno what truth there is to it...

Saturday there was a fire at Harvard Square Station. It was a trash fire (on the tracks, I think) near opening of the outbound tunnel. When our train pulled out, the driver said the fire departments was on its way. There was a ton of smoke.

Ha, I bet we were on the same train. I was gonna ask here what the deal was, because there was a TON of smoke, so the trash fire story seemed a little odd. Also, all the way down at Davis they'd stopped running the trains, and fire trucks showed up. Weird stuff.

and ugh, I have to go ride the red line now. Great.

Redline delays & a new year's eve idea

Thanks for the info.
I'll be taking the redline home very soon, but now I think I will bail out at Harvard. There was definitely a significant delay on Sat. due to a fire at Harvard Station (thanks for the info Leighjen).
Regarding New Year's Eve...
I am trying to encourage some of my friends to get together at a local pub (cover free) for the festivities. If anyone is still looking for something to do let me know and I'll give you the details.

Thanks for the tip! I took an alternate way home and got here in good order. Reminder to self: check T web site before leaving more often.

I heard a rumor from a couple of places that the rail actually broke on the outbound track somewhere between Davis and Porter, and they were running a single train both directions on the inbound track between Harvard and Alewife, causing Harvard to be a minor disaster.

That having been said, it's better now, trains are running in both directions, and it seems to be pretty normal.

That's what the inexplicably-non-evil-today token seller at Central told me.

I just took it Harvard->Davis and it was completely uneventful.
