Wainwright bank sold!

Hey all, figured there's a lot of Wainwrighters in this community so I'd share the info.

Wainwright Bank is being bought by Eastern Bank.

The article linked says Eastern plans to continue their commitment to social justice, yadda yadda. Eastern Bank also has received awards for highest customer satisfaction in New England, so that's a point in their favor as well.

Huh, I've never even heard of Eastern Bank, even though they're apparently in eastern MA and a few times as large as Wainwright.

I'd heard of them, but even though they are headquartered in Boston they don't have much local presence there. They have a downtown office, one in Southie, one in Eastie, and a few scattered from Chelsea to Medford, but mostly they're out in the suburbs.

Looks like they only have a branch in downtown boston, one in southie, one in east boston, and the rest are out in the burbs, so it makes a lot of sense that they'd pick up Wainwright with all of its boston and camberville locations.

No idea about the social justice part, but I used Eastern for years when I was out in Weymouth, and was always pretty happy with them. Unless they've changed recently, they are pretty good about things like accounts with very low minimums and such like, and the customer service was always better than I got at some of the bigger area banks.

On the plus side, at least it may mean an update to the "Web 0.2" internet banking, to something more secure. previous post on the issues (http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/2133680.html?thread=25209008#t25209008).

Eastern bank must have something better - it couldn't be worse.

indeed. And maybe paperless accounts. For a bank on values, the fact that I have to get a paper statement monthly kind of sucks.
