boxes for top hats?

i have a top hat that i want to take on vacation in october, but short of wearing it on the plane i'm not sure how to get it there uncrushed. i don't really want to pack it in my suitcase unless i absolutely have to. are there places i can buy a hatbox for it, so i can carry it on the plane in relative safety? i have a car so it doesn't necessarily have to be a t-accessible place.

How large of a box are you looking for? I have a shipping box that my Cavalier hat came in, but it is nearly 2ft on all 3 sides. It has plenty of packing peanuts in it, and might not be suitable as a carry-on, but might be good enough for cargo. If you want it, it is yours, and it is very near Teele Square.

This would be mail-order (unless you feel like taking a very scenic drive in NH), but Sarah's Hat Boxes (http://www.sarahshatboxes.com/results.asp?Category=Hat%20Boxes) makes the nicest hatboxes I've ever seen. Totally customizable, very reasonably priced, beautiful work, supremely nice people.

There's a haberdasher in Harvard sq, on brattle st near the intersection with Church st. They might be able to advise you.

Keezer's (just outside Central Square, Cambridge) usually has them. They had cardboard ones when I bought a top hat there years ago.

A slight tangent and you probably already like the hat you have, but last year when I had this problem I solved it by buying a collapsible top hat, which fits much more easily in a suitcase.
