Red Line *will* run Dec 8-9

The T website says:

"Normal Red Line train service will operate between Alewife and Harvard Stations on Saturday, December 8th, through Sunday, December 9th, 2012. The scheduled weekend Red Line diversion has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for Spring 2013."

Good news, but I wonder why?

Is it too unlikely that someone put their foot down about the T cutting off access to Davis Square Christmas shopping for two years in a row?

Perhaps, but Christmas shopping in Davis Square this year is on Thursday, December 6, not the weekend.

Well, while the special event is on Thursday night, the entire month of December is pretty important to retail businesses. Most of the stores are open on weekends, and many people who live inbound of Harvard and do their shopping on weekends might be more likely to trek all the way out to Davis for some holiday shopping on the subway than standing around waiting for a bus....

Aw, I was hoping to get a free bus to Harvard to do holiday shopping this weekend :-P

That's exactly what I thought...

My guess is it is because the buses are being used for an Orange Line diversion: http://www.boston.com/yourtown/news/jamaica_plain/2012/12/buses_to_replace_trains_betwee.html
