coat donation?

I've got a lot of coats and winter clothing (thermals, sweaters, sleeping bag, etc) I'm not using and would like to donate to a shelter or coat drive. Anybody know any such place?

There's clothing donation bins for Planet Aid on Broadway in Winter Hill next to the right aid and the liquor store. Also one on Mass Ave in Cambridge near the Gulf Station at Garfield Street. There's also Second Chances that runs clothing drives and has drop off bins around Cambridge: http://www.secondchances.org/donateClothing.htm

Planet Aid is not a real charity. They are a cult. Please do not give anything to them ever.

My suggestion is to bring the coat to the Somerville Homeless Coalition, which is in the basement of the CVS-Boston Sports Club buildilng (entrance on Dover Street).

Healthworks in Porter also does a coat drive at this time of year.

I wouldn't donate to Planet Aid if you really want your donations to be of use. They're a super shady organization: http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/12/06/charity-watchdog-accuses-planet-aid-of-misleading-its-donors/ I really like Second Chances in Somerville. I brought stuff to a drive a few months ago and they seemed really on top of things. Also, they're local, if you care about that sort of thing.

Anton's cleaners has a coat drive called 'Coats for Kids', but they take coats for adults too. (but only coats, not sweaters or other clothing) They clean them and redistribute to local charities. 377 Somerville Ave.

Goodwill (Elm St. in Davis Square). Or Rosie's Place in Boston--this is a shelter for battered women.

Second Chances has a local clothing drive (Lincoln Tech - Assembly Square) going on now and we have drop off bins in several nearby locations, including Danehy Park (North Cambridge) and two Cambridge Whole Foods (Prospect Street and River Street stores).

For the past seven years, we've provided free clothing to people in need in Somerville and Cambridge working through local organizations where people are already receiving shelter and services. We serve approximately 300 people each year.
