I was deeply saddened to learn yesterday from my partner (who found out from Paul Bockelman's post on Facebook) that Art Apinian had died. The last time that I saw him was early September and he didn't look well. I was worried about his health. I became friendly with him about 20 years ago through his shoe repair shop in Davis Square. He was a wonderful human being. I loved his humor and philosophizing. I brought so many people to that shop to meet him - my sisters, my parents, cousins, and friends. I spent much time in his shop over the years talking and listening to him talk to a wide variety of people who would stop by with their shoes or just to visit. I used to think that someone should make a documentary about him right there in his shop. Does anyone know what led to his death?
