Where does our snow go?

There was an article on WBUR this morning about Boston's snow farms and my daughter asked me "Where does Somerville's snow go?" and I realized that I have no idea. Makes me fell like a bad citizen. Anyone know?

perhaps they have simply meant to give you a lovely pile of solidly-sintered snow from which you my carve the World's Best Igloo!

(were I there, and not instead in New Siberia, I'd show you how to do this with a carpenter's hand-saw and a flat shovel)

the unfortunate effect (if not intent) was that they built a lovely dog-ramp out of our carefully fenced-in back yard. fortunately, we can haz good doglet who comes when called, even if she's already romped out of sight :)

There is money to be made on Airbnb with that technique - or at least someone in East Cambridge briefly tried: http://mashable.com/2015/02/04/igloo-airbnb-10-bucks/

Where's Newtons? Do they use the dump or just the area on Lowell Ave south of the Pike?

I found this article that says it's an old transfer station on Linwood Street.

Once the Somerville Arts Council finishes turning that site into an art farm, this option may become less available.

I think in early 2011 (speaking as a skier, a GREAT snow year!) they used Trum Field. If they're not using it yet this year - I haven't been by so I haven't seen - I'd assume it's on the back burner if they run out of space elsewhere.

Strikes me as a bad choice to dump all that salt-laden road snow on a field they'd like to keep growing grass on.

I believe in 2013, it was hauled to the still-largely-barren Assembly Square. Not sure how much undeveloped space is left there now.

They used to dump it in the Charles. Fortunately they stopped that.

I live on the Medford line. I put as much as I can in Medford.

According to the Mayor's Snow FAQ published on the Somerville Times website
Current “snow farms” in Somerville include the former waste transfer station in Brickbottom, the former Chuckie Harris Park on East Cross Street, and under I-93 by Ten Hills. Starting this week, some snow is also being melted by the Snow Dragon, which feeds the melted water into the sewer.
