Anti-War Rally in Davis tonight

Tonight in the Square: Rally Against War on Iraq from 5:30-6:30p

Hmm.

I'm fully against the War, and part of me feels that rallies are important to show The Powers That Be that a substantial part of the voting public feel a certain way.

But another part of me feels that 'Davis Square Against the War on Iraq' is almost redundant, like having a Rally Against Bricks Dropped on our Heads. Is there anyone out there who'll look at our little square, one of the most liberal parts of a very liberal state, and be surprised or have their mind changed in any way by this rally? And if not, what's the point?

What do folks think?

Will it change people's minds? Probably not. But there may be people going through the area who haven't been paying a great deal of attention or are ambivalent, and this would be just a little bit more exposure to the idea that there is opposition to it, which, IMO, is a good thing. The more times that people say, "This is a bad idea," the more likely it is that, just through hearing it over and over and over, some people who are ambivalent about it may start to really think about it, just because they keep hearing it. I think it will help to keep the idea in the public conscious, even if this particular rally is in an unsurprising place for there to be such a rally.
