Davis Square traffic update from the city

Updated on the city's Facebook page.  tl;dr: Avoid Davis Square at all costs if you are on wheels.  If you are a pedestrian, things might not be much better.  This sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Davis Square traffic update: The closure of Elm St., between Dover St. and Grove St. for all vehicles, will remain in place until further notice as structural work continues on the façade of the building at 240 There will also be no access for pedestrians on Elm St., between Chester St. and Grove St., during this work. Starting at 5am (Tuesday morning) the following temporary detours and traffic pattern changes will go into effect:

• Highland Ave. between College Ave. and Grove St. will become a two-way street.
• Vehicles traveling east on Holland St. may take a right onto Dover St., or continue onto Highland Ave.
• Vehicles traveling west on Highland Ave. may continue onto Holland St., or right onto College Ave. Cars will not be permitted to turn left onto Dover St.
• Vehicles traveling into Davis Sq. on College Ave. may only turn right onto Holland St. Cars will not be permitted to travel straight onto Dover St. nor take a left turn onto Highland Ave.

Somerville Police will be stationed in this area to assist with detours, and message boards will be placed in Teele Sq. and at the Powder House Rotary. If at all possible, please seek alternate routes, particularly during morning and evening rush hour commutes: Updates will be provided as they are available.

Yeah, I was surprised that they closed the whole block, not just the parts under the scaffolding. Guess I'll have to go to Porter for my Anna's fix!

Holy Hell. I'm about to attempt to take the 96 bus to the Davis T. I presume it will let me off at Hall Street or thereabouts???

This will be "interesting"...

Last night I saw buses turning right onto Holland Street from College. I don't remember if they were 94 or 96.

So, the 96 busline into Davis was fine this a.m. I was on the one that leaves Medford Square around 8:23 a.m. It terminates at Davis and we disembarked at the usual stop in front of Tedeschi's. The driver told me that the ones that go the full route to Harvard do have to follow a detour.

Coming back the other way (Harvard to Davis and beyond) shouldn't be a problem, since the bus is on Highland at that point as it skirts round the square.

As a DSLJ moderator and poster, I've been seeing a fair number of these robo-comments, on both my posts and other peoples'. They come in screened (hidden) by default, and I usually don't unscreen them. I have no idea why our posts have been this popular.

Well, this is the most interesting group on the internet. I moved five? years ago and I still read it when it comes across one of my feeds.

(I even downloaded the app just to comment here, now)

As a small aside, this Boston Globe story (http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/06/23/portions-davis-square-building-somerville-risk-collapse/IIlnZTydNLRCLMpHvjhBJP/story.html) includes a quote from the mayor that the Roche Brothers proposal for the building was pulled. I hadn't heard that before, very unfortunate.
