Found has been Lost

Found, the used clothing consignment shop at 255 Elm Street, has closed. Someone identifying himself as the owner was standing outside a few minutes ago, and he told me that the landlord is "a greedy jerk who jacked up the rent, and is not a good person." He also said the shop had suffered from shoplifting. He hopes to find a new location where he can reopen it.

!!! Are you sure? (Off to check notifications options.) No, having checked notifications, I'm pretty sure that can't have happened. Maybe you got notified for some other reason, like it being in reply to a comment you left or in a thread you're tracking?

It's a super-obscure setting -- so obscure that I had to look through Help to find it again.

Oh, WOW! I had known about pingback for entries, but not for mentions. I wonder if they added mentions later? And why on earth isn't this just in the notification system, as it works by email notification and not like pingback-for-links?

Anyways, thanks for educating me, it's very useful for me to know.

That said, I don't know many other people know about it or have it on. What's the default for new accounts, do you know?

No idea. I could not even remember where this setting was without searching the Help system for the word "mention".
