Rats!

I have just discovered I have rats in the basement. I have used Best Pest in the past for smaller jobs (ants)
but want to get recommendations for other options for rat control pest companies. Thanks!

Get a pest control company for the immediate issue, then get a cat for longer term control :)

Cats unfortunately are not a deterrent for rats, only mice.

If that is not your house, please call the owner/landlord ASAP. Best Pest is good for that also, I used them years ago for squirrels in the house - I would advise also to figure out where they are getting in

Yes about the how they get in - we ended up having a slab poured under our front porch, as it turned out they'd established a massive warren of tunnels under that wonderfully safe (to them - because of its inaccessibility to anything larger) area.

Though with stone/brick basement walls it takes constant surveillance, especially in partially obscured places - like where the porch meets the house, or behind shrubs - to make sure they don't find a new place to dig.

(And my indoor/outdoor basement cat does occasionally get rats, usually youngsters just bigger than full-grown mice, but I'm sure it doesn't make a dent in the population. I generally don't know if they're caught inside or brought inside - she has a cat door, and I usually just find them on the basement floor in the morning.)
