No marijuana dispensary at former Family Dollar store

According to Ward 6 alderman Lance Davis, Garden Remedies has withdrawn its application to open a medical marijuana dispensary in the former Family Dollar store at 245 Elm Street.

The city has already approved another dispensary to go into the basement of the bfresh building across the street.

Am I the only one that's not super sad to hear this news?

I doubt it. One dispensary seems like plenty.

Agree. Not that empty storefronts are acceptable. Living in Magoun Square, we had plenty of those and, luckily, they have filled. I'm interested to see what happens with that space.

Despite Garden Remedies' experience and best intent, I would've been really surprised if this had ended up happening. With a competitor directly across the street, a huge space they were subletting with an unknown tenant, and a storefront painted a bleak black, I don't think many residents were too excited about it.

That said, I hope Family Dollar doesn't stay vacant long.

I would personally love it if the Family Dollar turned into something like an Ocean State Job Lot or Harbor Freight Tools.

This is good news. I don't want to see any here.
