Powerbook G4 repairs locally?
I have a G4- about one year old. The cd/dvd drive sounds like a monster. It will not accept a disk but repeatedly (as in every 3 seconds) tries to accept one. Sounds like chewing metal. I was told by the genius bar at the Mac store it would cost about $700 because there is a slight dent on the keyboard casing which suggests I may have been responsible for the broken drive, thus making my AppleCare useless for this. I also inquired with Tekserve in NYC and they suggested about $400. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything more local and less expensive. I'd really like to have this disk drive replaced asap. Thanks!
don't go to the store.
Sometimes I think that they are told to try to deny as many applecare claims as possible.
Every time, I have called the applecare 1-800 number, explained the problem, and they fixed it under apple care for me.
The process is simple and fast, they send you a box, you send it to them, and they send you back a fixed computer.
Besides, they don't actually fix things at the apple store anyhow, they ship your computer off to be fixed.
