Bicycle

I just got a bike! Unfortunately, it came in a box and I put it together with some help from friends. Can you all recommend a reliable bike shop in the area where I can

A) Have them give it a once over to make sure it's all built correctly and the brakes are working, etc.
B) Sell me a few accessories

As far as I can tell, a lot of retail bike shops won't service bikes that they didn't sell, and bike service places don't sell retail items!

Any suggestions would be appreciated and cheap is GOOD.

Check out the Paramount bike shop in Powderhouse Square! Great service and work.

Ditto! The owner is quirky but very knowledgeable and does good work. Just take it to him!

Thirded. Tyler is the man.

I agree with the place near Powderhouse rotary. Not only did he change a flat tire for me once, but he showed me how to do it myself.

I find Ace friendlier than Belmont. (Ace is my standard bike shop, but Belmont's on my commute so it's where I do a lot of minor repairs and buy all my brake pads.)

I also agree with the above people that Tyler is awesome.

I've never heard of a bike shop that won't service bikes they didn't sell. Paramount focuses on service and has a tiny retail section, but the others mentioned have lots of retail stuff.

It's well out of the way, but I really like Harris Cyclery out in Newton.

I like Ace Wheelworks on the corner of Elm and Willow.

Which bike shop wouldn't service a bike they didn't sell? Repair is a mainstay of most shops' business.

B: What they all said, along with Broadway Bike School. I really like BBS, especially when I have time to get teaching from them.

I second Broadway Bicycle School. I've tried several others, and always found Broadway to be the best. It's on Broadway in Cambridge not far from Fayette Street.

ATA Cycle on Mass Ave just outside of Porter. Best shop around.

I've had good luck with Ace (they've tuned up my bike a couple of times), though I haven't tried the others.

As far as I can tell, a lot of retail bike shops won't service bikes that they didn't sell, and bike service places don't sell retail items!

I've nevber heard of either of those situations myself. I don't think it's something you need to worry about.

Paramount bicycle repair- Fantastic shop, family owned and operated!

It depends on what kind of bike you have!

For a commuter bike, Broadway is the best.

For a racing bike, Ace Wheelworks on Elm or Quad in Arlington Heights.

For a mountain bike probably Ace or Paramount or Park Cycles, on Somerville Ave.

For a cruiser, Paramount or Park, I think.
