Cell phone service

Hi,
I just moved into Davis Square this weekend, and find that I am receiving either one or no bar on my t-mobile cell phone. Does anyone have recommendations for carriers that have good receptions? Thanks.

I hear a lot of people complaining about Cingular for various reasons, but I've had them for years now, and have never had a problem with them. The reception is always great for me.

I'm on the Sprint network (through Virgin Mobile) and haven't found any trouble all around the Boston area. I understand there are some spotty places nationwide, though, so if you travel a lot and depend on your phone while you do it, you may want to consider carefully.

I agree that Sprint is great.

I agree. I got it initially as it works in NH. (and verizon doesn't.)

Verizon Wireless.

I'm a bit east of Davis, and Verizon has been MUCH better than Cingular ever was. It's nice to be in my apartment and not have to make my calls from on top of the fridge.

Heck, Verizon seems to get better signal most places as far as I've noticed.

weird, i had little to no service with sprint when i moved here, and t-mobile has been great. maybe its just the neighborhood or building you're in.

I'm the same. I have T-Mobile and the only place I've had spotty coverage was in a remote area of West Roxbury. Other than that, I have no problems with it in Davis. Verizon is good as well, but it got pricy way too quickly for me.

I'm not familiar with T-Mobile, but is there a way to update your coverage? On my Verizon phone there is a code you can dial (*__) and it's supposed to update your phone as to the location of nearby cellular towers so that your service is improved.

verizon gets full coverage in davis square, anywhere in boston, in the burbs, west mass. it's spotty perhaps outside of massachusetts but within it i have absolutely no complaints.

I get good enough service with Sprint, if your worried about price. I know friends who get much better service with Verizon, but then it's a trade off price vs. service. A lot of it also has to do with your phone too I think. When I first moved into the area, I had almost no service with sprint. But now that I've updated my phone, it's pretty good.

It also might be your phone. How old is it? I'm anoter t-mobile customer with no issues in Davis.

Count me in too. I have never had less than 3 in Davis.

I second the phone suggestion. I had trouble with my T-Mobile phone (which was a couple years old, though i loved it and miss it) when I first moved to the porter-davis area, but once I upgraded my phone, I had a lot less trouble. though I think some of my problems might've just been my house, because I was fine outside, and there's still a couple of spotty places in my house, even with the new phone.

Honestly...call tmobile. I had the same exact problem when I switched over to them. I was in the square a lot because I worked there parttime and it was inconvenient to have no coverage. They upgraded my signal or boosted it and it's been great ever since.

I had the same experience with T-Mobile when I moved to the square. Since then I've had both Cingular and Sprint and the service for both in the area has been fine.

i've had really good service through Verizon in this area.

that's unfortunate. i live up on highland ave and am totally fine with tmobile here and everywhere in downtown. maybe it's your place or your phone? if you have roomies, or have friends with the same service see what they're getting.

I have only good things to say about my Cingular coverage, I have been with them for years. I have never had a problem getting a signal.

I'm surprised you don't do well with T-Mobile. I'm on T-Mobile and I've never had an issue with it anywhere in or around Davis. It gets much better reception than my old Cingular phone did (that one got no reception in my house, which is a big part of why I switched).
