brief power outage

We just had the second of two power outages so far this evening. Each lasted at most a few minutes and seemed to be a clean power off / power on (no greyouting that I could tell). It seems somewhat odd, occurring on the nicest day (or at least close runner-up) yet this year.

Has anyone else experienced these blips? Any idea of the cause?

We haven't noticed anything here!

I'm on Highland Road too, and I also experienced both of these. The first one lasted long enough for me to go, "huh?" and the second lasted long enough to get candles lit and flashlights found before the power came on again (oy).

No idea of the cause.

Same here; I'm on Prichard Ave (two blocks east of you). First one freaked out my toddler; on the second one I'd just gotten the computers and UPSes shut down when the power came back on (fortunately, the kidlet was asleep by then).

no power outage here (I live on College Ave).

We had two outages on Morrison Ave. There was an NSTAR truck with flashing yellow lights near the corner of Morrison and Willow, but I didn't get the chance to go out and ask them what was happening.

I called nstar, according to the automated message it was just a damaged power line. I'm on Rogers Ave, our power was out from about 7ish-8:30ish.

Yep, I'm on Rogers too. It went out about 6:45, I remember, because we were getting ready to meet someone at 7:00. That's over an hour-and-a-half, which I think is pretty long without electricity!

What causes these outages, and how do they fix them??

Good lord, everybody really *does* live on Rogers. Not a big street, either. (I bought a house here last fall.)

ha, add me to the list.

Our power went out right before 7 and it was not long until the hordes of looters began to file their way up Rogers Ave, profit in their eyes and evil in their hearts. It was a hard fought fight keeping them from our doorstep, but a lot of shouting and a few exclamation points from my snub nosed kept the tattered crowds away and directed them towards easier climes where they could loot to their delight the massed stores of hemp clothing, lentils, and Rilke trade paperbacks that were stored within. Like the Vikings of olde, the horde fell upon the monasteries of Somerville and nary a sallow monkish youth was spared.

I expect that these outages are Nature's way of renewing the block and sweeping away the old so that a new crop of earnest youth can take their place and thus the entire neighborhood may prosper.

Power seemed to dip when I was in Super Stop & Shop in Medford, and I returned home to Medford Square to see ours had been reset.

We had one last night for almost 2 hours...apparently, there was some problem with a high voltage wire or wrires somewhere.

We called again to get an update but the minute we did, the lights snapped back on.

cause of power outage?

Last night there were several (three?) fire trucks near Willow and Morrison. This morning, I noticed scorch marks on the telephone pole nearest the new condos at Willow and Morrison. My guess is that a faulty transformer on that pole caused the blackouts, then burst into flames a day later.
