Furniture stores with city-sized sofas?

I live in an apartment, and I'd like to buy a sofa that can seat three (i.e. not a loveseat - this sofa's for napping).

Are there good furniture shops around here where I can buy a city-apartment-sized sofa (80" long or less) for less than $1000? Bonus if they deliver. I'd like to check it out in person - otherwise I'd just order from online somewhere.

(I bought one from Jordan's Furniture, but it was too big to fit through my apartment door, and all of their other sofas are similarly too big. I also looked at Circle Furniture's website but wow, they're a bit expensive.)

If you have a car, there's the Ikea in Stoughton. They have plenty of stuff for smaller places, and they deliver.

Try Jennifer Convertibles - I was able to get a sofa bed that is only 36 inches wide for about $800. It's comfortable, and stylish. The do deliver, too. I went to the one on Boylston, but I think there's one near Porter? You should try bostoninteriors.com, too. I know a few people who have found great couches there.

Yep, it's on Somerville Avenue in Porter Square.

There's one in the Porter Exchange (next to the Anna's).

I second Jennifer Convertibles. I got a really decent sofabed that I believe is 72 inches long for about $800. It's right in Porter across from the t-stop.

Jennifer Convertibles has a history of delivering things months late, and often of delivering furniture of quality far below that which they show in their stores. Lots of sites have info on this - do a quick search: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/furniture/jennifer.html

I did a significant amount of research, including on consumeraffairs, before I bought my sofa bed in 2004. I specifically asked the sales person about the lawsuits, etc, and she explained that they were working hard to improve the situation. Consumaffairs is a great site, but if I didn't buy anything from the companies listed, I wouldn't have anywhere to shop :)

Sleep-a-rama (http://www.sleeparama.com) on Mass Ave, located among the huge collection of furniture stores between Harvard and Central (what is WITH that?) has some sofas that look like they would fit the bill. I haven't bought anything from them, but I really can't recommend them highly enough--they were the only non-sketchy mattress shop in the area I could find, and the guy working there was super nice. They also deliver.

Craigslist. You can find good couches for $150-$400 that fit into an apartment!

There's a new furntiture store in Ball Square. I haven't bought anything from them, but the owners are very nice. They've been in the furniture biz for a long time, and their prices are quite good. I forget the name of the store, but it's between the Blue Cloud Gallery and the Winter Hill Bank on Broadway in Ball Square.

Dream On Futon has some good stuff, although it's still "high end futon" rather than "low-end sofa"

Crate&Barrel has a few sofas that are from $800-1000, and they have many that are as you described (small but easily seat 3). Even better is CB2.com though you'd have to go to chicago to see the stuff in person (it's generally very high quality and they will ship fabric swatches to you before closing the deal).

Just looked into this myself. My suggestion is the City Schemes stores - there's a showroom in Central, and their outlet is in Somerville, off of Somerville Ave. The showroom tends to be a bit pricier, but the range seemed to be $800+; the outlet tended to be $500-$1500. Delivery is $100 flat rate.
