Has anyone been to Masao's in Porter Square?
I hear there's yum Japanese Macrobiotic-Vegan fare there..

Any experiences?

EDIT: Yup, what a shame, it seems to not exist anymore. I also had not seen it, but being that I moved out of the Porter area this fall, I was hoping it was a *new* place..oh well
thanks to those who pointed this out!

I'm pretty sure it's not there anymore - I went years and years ago, but I don't remember seeing it last time I was there. The review is from 1996...

I live nearby (since 2000) and go to the Porter Exchange regularly.
I've never seen this place, so I think it's no longer there...

I lived near Porter in 1997-1999, and I remember that place fondly. Sadly, it is gone.

It wasn't Japanese in any way that I recall. It was defintiely macrobiotic, though. It was serious healthy food - not like the "healthy options" you get at some places that are just slightly less bad.

I discovered seitan there - they had a fabulous seitan cutlet sandwich with sauteed onions on this wonderful thick, fresh bread, with a tasty dark mustard.

When they closed, the signs said that the owner was going to refocus on catering. I have no idea if that went anywhere, though.

Masao Moved

Good macro food is still available ... Masao's moved to Waltham about 3 years ago ... on Moody Street about 3 blocks away from the Embassy movie theatre.

They don't make those delicious tempeh rolls anymore. And the menu is more limited that the ol' Cambridge one. But it is still very centering food and a cool scene overall.
