Monthly meetup revisions

OK, so, as organizer, I didn't do the most awesome job. Some folks did, however, meet up, so I consider that a success. :-)

But I did determine a few things, one of which is the meet should be held at a slightly less crowded area, one small enough to make it pretty hard to miss somebody wandering around looking for people.'

So, I propose we set the next one for Saturday, October 6th, at 5pm, and to meet at the newly opened Kickass Cupcakes.

Which, for the record, is a pretty neat little bakery. I've tried their mojito and their vanilla so far, and have been GREATLY impressed.

Saturday, October 6, is the HONK! Festival in Davis Square. It may be starting to wind down by 5 pm, but I'm not sure of the schedule.

Just for the record, last year's Honkfest used the following venues: the plaza in front of JP Licks; Seven Hills Park behind the theatre; the plaza next to Starbucks; and the plaza in front of the Dilboy Post VFW. I don't know what their plans are for this year.

I just got an interim schedule from the HONK! folks. The event goes until 7 pm, at all of the locations I listed above, plus the street in front of Redbones.

I'm planning on spending that entire weekend immersed in Honkfest, so I vote a different weekend for the main meetup.

I'd happily attend a Honk-oriented gathering, as in "everyone on the Davis LJ meets at Honk venue X for a bit to squee together about how awesome Honk is" though. But I at least plan on my priority being Honkfest that weekend, since it's going to be bigger and more and better than even last year, and last year I couldn't get nearly enough.

You need to e-mail me about this. I mean, you know how much doing this together would rule, right?

If you haven't already, would you mind asking the owner if they're okay with the possibility of a mob? (In particular one made up of people who may not all be buying.)

Ah, I thought you were suggesting it as a place to meet up inside. Shouldn't a meet-up be at a place where people can actually meet up and hang out, or am I missing something?

[personal profile] ron_newman 2007-09-10 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Were you at yesterday's attempted meetup? I'm not sure I recognize you, so we may have been looking for each other without realizing it.

No, I couldn't make it, but geez, Ron, we've met more times than I can count. You've come to my house, even!

[personal profile] ron_newman 2007-09-10 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I know, but that was over a year ago. But maybe I'll see you at Redbones tomorrow?

Yes, but you look the same.

I can't, I've got a client meeting and the a theater meeting. And I confess, having seen their previous spreads, I don't have much faith in it being particular veg-friendly, anyway. :)

As an aside, I went by the cupcake joint tonight. It was after close and so I was just reading the menu board to see what they had up their sleeves and I got *the* nastiest scowl from the woman working. I wasn't making the "please can I come in after hours" face, I was just reading the menu board. Also, $2.75 for a cupcake!?? I think I'll stick to Lyndells.

Last, it's a lousy meet-up spot because there's nowhere nearby to sit down. Not everyone is so great at standing around for unknown amounts of time until a meet-up gets going.

I haven't been to the cupcake place yet, but I would love to meet-up in a spot that's more conducive to hanging out and such. Is there a reson we couldn't do it at some kind of eating/drinking establishment? Or an outside area with seating, etc.?

I was just sort of taken aback. I mean, they've been open for what, all of a few days? You think they'd be happy to see people window shopping for cupcakes or just generally interested.

just a point; if very few people made it to a 5pm Saturday time/date, wouldn't it be an idea to move it to another time or day? I know that I can't make a 5pm Saturday meetup, no matter how frequent they are; I work half an hour away, and until 6pm every Saturday.

cupcakes!

I have to say, I was underwhelmed. Tasty, but not great. Maybe it was just because it was the end of the day, and we'll definitely give them another shot, but still.
