Steam Cleaning

I didn't see this under the house cleaning tag, but has anyone here used a steam cleaning service for their carpets? Mine really need it. But I'd need a service that can come here and schlep the equipment up to my 3rd floor apartment, and I have a feeling I may be out of luck in that regard. If anyone has had this service, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

(What you see in the userpic is a big reason why I need it.)

"TMP Carpet" at 781-245-3939 did a good job for us, and had no trouble reaching the third floor with their long hose. The truck-mounted equipment sucks more of the water back out, so the result dries much faster than if you used one of the portable rental things.

They need to run a hose in somehow, and the process is noisy, so you may want to evacuate your cats to somewhere calmer for the day.

I decluttered and I think they got under my bed, and around my dresser and desk. They moved stuff like chairs and trash cans without fuss. The carpet felt mostly dry by the next morning, and I put the plastic mat for my desk chair back down the day after that.

We had them do one bedroom (with wall to wall carpet) both stair runners, and the couches and upholstered chairs in the living room; I don't know how it works if you have a large fraction of the space carpeted, and thus no place to put things.

If they do couches, they leave the cushions all piled sideways, and you need to go flip them around as they dry; if your place ventilates poorly, you will be most comfortable if you can run a few box fans while everything dries.
