I am looking for work over the winter, while my bike school is on break. I do baby sitting, elder care, sewing, errands, transcribing, editing, tutoring, and cooking. I'd love to have a few steady jobs over the winter but could also do odd jobs that come along. I have a teaching certificate, first aid and CPR and play the guitar and sing. I haven't seen a thread with actual recommendations on house cleaners recently. I'm considering setting up something bi-weekly, but want someone reliable.

I was wondering if anyone had any new experiences or new suggestions.

Currently, I'm considering http://www.silvacleaningservice.com/contact.html and http://walzcleaning.com/ from a previous entry. Other suggestions from that thread appear to have disappeared, so I figure people may have new suggestions as well.

Can anyone recommend a cleaning service that would be able to come to Cambridge weekly to clean a small office building? Looking for affordability in particular (we're a nonprofit), and the cleaners must be willing to come in during business hours (~8am-6pm weekdays). Yelp reviews weren't helpful - they're mostly about one-time cleaning and I'm looking for long-term reliability. PM me if you need more details. Thanks!

What are going rates for house cleaning in the Somerville area?  I suppose the real question may be more like, what is common practice in pay per hour, or by square footage... I'm new at this, have mercy on me.

My place is the upstairs condo of a two floor house: LR, DR, K, 1BA, 2BR, approximately 1100 sq feet. The first quote I received was assuming 1.5 to 2 hours per session.

Thanks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaners post large scale home renovation? Not just a run of the mill cleaning, but "OMG there is sawdust and plaster dust EVERYWHERE and I will never get this clean on my own" cleaners? If you've used someone and found them to do a good job, let me know. I'll also search Angie's list for suggestions. Thanks!

Greeting davis square,

I'm seeking two services.

Yard Work:
* Trim Hedges
* Remove three to four foot+ ragweed and other weeds.
* Pull down overgrowth.

I've asked several services, but most garden people are crunchy-organic-make-it-pretty goodness ($$$$$). Not "just clean the overgrown crap up please" ($).

Inside the house:
* Previous resident has been a pet-astrophy there.
* The basement smells awful, and was used as a litterbox by the previous resident's cat.
I need a cleaning service that can deal with this sort of thing.
* Carpets need steam cleaning, etc...

(I've seen lots of advice in other posts fixing this yourself, but i'm not currently in a physical state to be able to do this myself - alas. I am seeking to hire someone)

This is time sensitive.

Hello fellow Davies Squarians! I have been searching around and not been successful, so I thought I would ask here!

Our household has an older fabric upholstered wingback that we're trying to get deep cleaned. Our cats had a little bit of territory war over it, I'm sad to say. We've managed to save it, but want it to get a professional once over before moving it into a more public room.

Does anyone know of someone in the area they can recommend that does furniture deep cleaning? We can take it to the shop or have them come to the house.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Can anyone recommend any duct cleaning companies and roughly how much such a service costs?

I'm looking for a service to do monthly house-cleaning. I've already tried services that either don't read important instructions, or can't reliably show up or keep track of my house key. Anyone using a company they'd recommend?

(It just occurred to me the potentially randy reading one could perform on the subject line. Lol!)

Dear Davis Square folks,

I've got various big clunky items sitting around mostly in various storage areas--a couple of dead TV sets, semi-dead stereo set, some furniture, etc. I really want to get rid of anything that can go before my next move and am researching various outfits such as 1-800-GOT-JUNK. (I've tried Freecycle, but this seems to be the sort of thing nobody wants except for professionals who make a living out of recycling rubbish.)

I was wondering whether any of you smart, sassy, crafty individuals have heard of locally based firms that do this kind of thing--and might potentially charge less than the big national firms.

Thanks and Happy Spring (we devoutly hope!)!

I need a housecleaner for a one-time housecleaning on short notice (before Sunday). Any good recommendations? I'm in Winter Hill and would like to not pay more than $75.

I know this has been asked before, but people come and go so I am looking for fresh referrals.

In particular, I'm looking for http://pembertonstore.com/microban%C2%AE-clean-carpet-sanitizer-p-1050.html or something similar.

Ideally they'd be open >6 today, and/or all day tomorrow.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

My roommate and I just moved to a new place and the landlord has left it a total mess, especially the kitchen and bathroom (think grease and mildew). While we can handle light cleaning, this is much more than we were prepared for, so we're looking into hiring someone to do a one-time heavy cleaning as soon as possible.

If anyone can recommend a good, reasonably-priced cleaning service, please share your wisdom. :)

I can be reached here and at my lj user name at g mail.

I have an old La-Z-Boy that needs its upholstery cleaned. Does anyone know where I might rent nearby a wet-vac or similar device I could use to do the job myself?

Hi all,
I just picked up a 100% wool carpet for under $100 at Crate and Barrel, they were getting rid of a lot of the floor models to make way for a complete re-do of their remaining Cambridge location (by adding some housewares into what was formerly furniture-only). It goes for $699 normally, so I think I got a deal, but it does need to be professionally cleaned. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or have access to Sandy's List or Angie's or whatever that chick's name is, and can look one up for me? Thanks in advance.

Several years ago, a poster on this forum recommended his housekeeper to the community. That worked out really well for me, and so today I thought I'd do likewise.

Solange Machado (781-645-0133 office, 857-888-4638 cell) has been cleaning my house for about a year (she took over when Zilah Santos, who had been doing the job, took some time off for personal and family reasons). I recommend her to anyone who requires the services of a housekeeper without reservation; she's outstanding. She will use her own organic supplies, or yours if you prefer (in my place she used mine, since I had them). Shows up on time, does a great job, flexible with respect to hours. Solange herself doesn't speak English too well, and as a result her daughter Daisy does the scheduling, but they're a terrific team.

I have moved to a place where the current owner (my new housemate) already has a cleaner she likes, and so Solange will no longer be cleaning my house. She advises she is *definitely* looking for new business.

(ETA: My partners still use Solange, and they, too have been very happy with her).

More than a few people on LJ have recommended Alda Guitierrez as a great housecleaner. I tried the email listed in the posts, but it's no longer active. Anyone have a current email for her? Or other recommendations for someone to do a deep cleaning of an apt for a move-out, move-in at the end of August?

Hello there friends!
As some of you know i've been cleaning houses in the Boston & Somerville areas for a while. I want to thank everyone who has recommended me.

I am no longer offering long term help in the area, but for the next two weeks, i am offering one of those spring cleaning dealies. I'm not one for crazy marketing, so to make it short, if your house is so messy that professional cleaners want you to clean before they come clean, your kitchen is so piled with dishes you forgot you have counters, and you just want someone else to fold your laundry and neatly, then you may want to take me up on this. i'd even love to babysit your kids.
bonus: i'll make you vegan chocolate cake.

so! if you're interested, email me at richips at livejournal.com
thanks!

Hello!

I'm looking for someone to clean my very messy apartment. The last person I had stole a lot of random things (she ended up paying me back), so I'm being extra-extra-extra careful about making sure I get recommendations from "actual people" as opposed to whoever she had giving hers.

Here's what I'm looking for:
-honest (see above)
-is not slow
-doesn't freak out over messes
-can work independently and without lots of instructions
-can tell what is obviously trash and what is not (a skill some seem to lack)

I like to be out while the person is working so I'm not in the way. Generally, we'll agree on an hourly rate and a number of hours and I'll leave payment.

This is for at least one major cleaning project with the possibility of "upkeep" kinds of cleaning later.

Feel free to message me if you don't want to put somebody's personal info here.
