Just had a Large Quantity of Crap removed by these folks:

Very kind, affordable, efficient, and definitely From Around Here. *g* They took more stuff than planned in exchange for a signal boost.

The pantry mice are back and have discovered that we have milk powder, tapioca powder, and guar gum.

I've done the glue traps. I'd rather not do that again. And they live in the floor joists that they access through the air ducts, so it's not like we can block off a mouse hole.

So if you have a Mighty Hunter Cat, we would like to borrow them for a day or so... just long enough to convince the mice that they would be happier next door.

(We're in Medford, the other side of Medford Square from Davis. We will feed you at least one meal.)

Our building's usual plow operator seems to have vanished (website is gone and email is bouncing), so I suddenly find myself looking for somebody to handle it this year. Recommendations highly welcomed.

This is a three-unit condo building with a relatively narrow driveway (fair-sized lot in the back, but big trucks are often too wide to get there), so operators who have some experience with tight quarters especially sought.

We're near Ball/Magoun Squares (Murdock St), if that's relevant.

Thanks for any and all ideas!

Hi all - I purchased a set of IKEA kitchen cabinets recently and they are getting delivered shortly. Like most IKEA products, they will require assembly. I understand that there are a variety of services out there that will assemble and install IKEA products. I am wondering if anyone has a recommendation for such a service - especially if your experience involves assembly and/or installation of kitchen cabinets.

Thanks in advance.

Now that many of us are scrambling to find help shoveling snow, I just wanted to send a warning about how I got scammed last winter by a "service" run by a guy named Jared Wright. He offered a contract for the season and wanted the entire amount up front. I signed, I paid. And I never saw him again. If you are approached by him, run away as fast as you can.

We're a 2-family looking for snow removal for this winter. Any advice from the group?

Anyone have moving company recommendations? We're moving a 1BR apartment's worth of stuff.

edit 9/21/2016: we went with gentle giant and it was amazing. They showed up on time, they were enthusiastic, the amount of time was under the initial estimate. There was a gps glitch that increased their drive time, and they told me about it and took the cost off the bill. Moving sucks but this was seriously the most painless move I've ever done.

I haven't seen a post on this recently and I originally had Comcast (now xfinity), prices went thru the roof and switched to RCN a couple of years ago.  My internet connection is not as reliable (both speed and dropped connection) as I like so I am considering an offer from xFinity. I know I need to ask specific and detailed questions to figure the true price.  Any thoughts on digital tv, higher speed internet and reliability for either provider.   If I am going to do this, I want to do it before the September rush!

Last autumn, my landlord had someone get up on a ladder and wrap the external part of my wall-mounted air conditioner in plastic and duct tape to protect and insulate it for the winter. That was great. It's now May 27th, it's over 80 degrees in my apartment, and he still hasn't gotten around to having someone get back up there and remove the plastic so I can use my AC, though he keeps telling me he's going to do it.

Can anyone recommend someone to hire to fix this situation for me? I don't expect it would take long for someone with a sufficient ladder and a razor blade. Indeed, I might be willing to retain the person to also unwrap the five other air conditioners of the neighboring apartments, depending on what it cost.

My AC and four of the others are on the second floor. A fifth AC is on the third floor.

We've got a huge couch that's got some tears, is generally showing it's 20-something age, and definitely needs to be reupholstered. It's a huge couch that I don't want to have to transport out of the house. I know that there are services that will come to your house and do all the work right there in your living room. Has anyone used such a reupholstery service (or know of one) that they would recommend? DIY is not an option for us.

My place needs a little bit of flooring work done. The floor is hardwood, and a couple of floorboards need to be replaced.
Any recommendations for a contractor? Thanks.

I am not wishing for snow but our snow plowing company has not renewed our flat fee contract.  Does anyone have a recommendation?  If you pay by storm, can you share how that pricing usually works?  Thanks so much!  Happy HONK weekend!

Hi all - any recommendations for a lawn maintenance service that can handle a modest Somerville backyard (plus side yard)?

I recently rebuilt my deck and the flashing around the 2 doors going out to the deck needs to be repaired/redone (only the lower half of the flashing). Any recommendations on who can do this job? It's a pretty small job it seems, but don't have the tools to do it ourselves. Thanks.

Hey kids, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a local service that can take back some unruly, unmaintained grape vines? Thanks!

Well I posted a while ago about repairing my poured concrete stairs but apparently they must be replaced.   The old poured concrete will need to be demolished before new ones are installed.  Any recommendations on a contractor to do the whole thing, someone to remove old stairs and/or someone to build new stairs out of compositie or install poured concrete or precast stairs?  Any pros and cons to each type other than price?

Hello, I wish to provide a recomendation for Torino Heating to anyone who has oil powered heat.   Frank has has kept my old boiler alive for years through annual servicing off season and I've never had a no heat call during the winter season; he really knows what he is doing.   He is a sole proprietor and it is great to have the owner operator be the one who always comes.    I'm doing a major renovation and we will be converting to gas, my only regret in that is that I can't use his services anymore, so I wanted to get his name out there for when people search this forum for such a thing in the future.   He is based in Medford. I'm looking for a company (insured, professional) that can disassemble an armoir and reassemble it upstairs in my house. Any suggestions?

We've got some serious looking ice dams that are causing some water to come inside - eek! Can anyone recommend someone to remove them for us? I looked in the home services tag, but didn't find anything.

Thanks!

Hello,
I am looking for someone or suggestions: who can repair or somehow make better a metal side table attached to an outdoor grill that got banged up when my neighbors a/c unit fell out of a window, bounced off the top of the wooden fence separating our yards (and dismantling the top finish board) and into the backyard onto the grill table a few weeks ago. (yeah. And turn out to be unresponsive and apparently uncaring renters). I am in the process of putting together a quote for the landlords, but this grill is old and there are no longer available replacement parts. It may be that someone can just bang it back into shape, or it may be they can possibly replace it entirely. It's a folded piece of metal permanently attached in the upright position with now-rusted bolts/screws.

Anyway, I would like a quote for someone to come take a look, offer a solution and do the job if they can, so I can pass along the info.
PS, while I live in Somerville, this is for a Cambridge home. Hope that's OK in the spirit of this online community of which I am very appreciative.
